Sheza-Peach Atlanta Style Iced Tea

Peachtree Street is, of course, the main street of Atlanta, and many are familiar with the expression “She’s a Georgia peach,” — referring to the fruit for which the state of Georgia has become so renowned.

In honor of its southern roots, this iced tea is best served in a Mason jar, on a porch, with nothing but Georgia on one’s mind.

Here’s to all those who hold Atlanta, Georgia, close to their hearts.

Atlanta-Style Sweet Peach Tea:

  • 8 x sachets of OG Red Tea
  • 2  x ripe peaches
  • 1 x sliced lemon
  • 1 Tbsp. honey, agave syrup or raw sugar
  • Ice, for serving
  • Fresh mint, for garnish
  1. Mix up a pitcher of OG Red Tea, add your sweetener of choice and the freshly sliced peaches, then let the tea mixture cool in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours.
  2. To serve, pour tea over ice cubes into Mason jars for an authentic southern touch, and add slices of lemon and a sprig of fresh mint.

Red Tea- Rae’s Way

This revitalizing tea blends the finest organic red tea leaves with two ingredients long revered in China for their beneficial properties — our signature organic Ganoderma lucidum and Cordyceps militaris — for a cup of tea that is refreshing, uplifting and positively balancing.

When Organo Gold references “red tea”, we mean red tea in the traditional Asian terminology. You see, while in the West we refer to the color of the tea leaves, and thus call it “black tea” — in China, Korea and Japan, the characters that make up the literal words “red tea” refers to the color of the infused drink itself. So, that’s why what some people in Western countries think of as “black tea” is dubbed “red tea” in the Cafe family.

Another kind of red “tea”, or what is often known in the West as Rooibos tea, isn’t technically a tea, because it comes from an entirely different plant, the Aspalathus linearis or the red bush “Rooibos” plant from South Africa. This isn’t related at all to the traditional Camellia sinensis tea plant, and thus is technically a herbal tea, tisane or herbal infusion as opposed to a traditional “tea”.

One of our favorite recipes, using OG Organic Red Tea, is ideal for cool winter days — or can be served iced in warmer climates. We whip up a batch of OG Red Tea, then simply add a few slices of lemon, some lemon zest, a few sprigs of fresh mint and some freshly sliced or grated ginger root. The ginger, lemon and mint add a refreshing flavor, as well as adding nutrients and a bit of “zing”!

RECIPE: Zesty Red Tea

Serve warm in winter or iced in summer.

Ingredients:

4 sachets of OG Organic Red Tea

32 oz. water

(or 8 oz. water for every sachet of red tea)

 Method:

  • Dissolve the sachets of OG Organic Red Tea in freshly boiled water.
  • Slice up fresh lemons, and zest some of the lemon rind.
  • Rinse sprigs of fresh mint in water, then slap or crush slightly with hands.
  • Peel a fresh ginger root and slice thinly or grate using a lemon zester or microplane grater.
  • Stir the lemon, lemon zest, mint, and ginger into the brewed tea.
  • Add a spoonful of your favorite honey (or if vegan you can substitute agave or brown rice syrup).

Tea Time Fun Facts

Tea is a beverage often associated with health (all those antioxidants), breakfast (all those crumpets!) and ancient cultures (all those ceremonies). So tea has a long, diverse and storied history. Here are some fun facts about tea you may not have known:

  • Tea bags were invented in America in the early 1800s, and were initially used to hold samples of teas brought from India. Today, an estimated 96% of all cups of tea served around the world are made using tea bags.
  • After tourism, the cultivation of tea is India’s second largest industry.
  • Tea leaves are a natural deterrent against insects such as mosquitoes. Simply use slightly damp leaves to add the scent of tea to the areas you want to keep insect-free.
  • Tea leaves can also help to heal shaving cuts, eliminate bad odors, and make a great fertilizer for roses.

As we all know, tea is a natural antioxidant, but it is also rich in essential vitamins and minerals such as vitamins B2, B1 and B6, potassium, manganese, folic acid and calcium.

Which Tea Type Are YOU?

Tea has been enjoyed by many cultures for centuries thanks to its refreshing and revitalizing properties, but it is only in recent years that scientists have confirmed the many beneficial properties of this beverage, which is high in antioxidants which can help fight off the free radical damage associated with aging.

All true teas come from the same plant, a bush known as Camellia Sinensis, but the differences in processing the leaves result in different types of tea. Here’s a breakdown of the different tea types:

Green Tea: Green tea is produced when the leaves of the tea plant are simply steamed, rolled and dried. This tea has a light, almost grassy flavor and high levels of antioxidants and polyphenols.greentea

Black Tea: Black tea is made using the same leaves as green tea, only the leaves go through a longer oxidation and fermentation process, which leads to its darker color and stronger flavor. The process means that black tea also has higher levels of caffeine and tannins than green tea.icedtea

3 Things To Consider When Brewing Tea:

  • What temperature is the water
  • How long are you taking to steep the tea

Green Tea:

Water Temp: 175°

Steep time: 1-3 min (Note: Never go over 3 min)

Red Tea:

Water Temp: 205°

Steep time: 3-5 min (Note: Never go over 5 min)

Re-steeping

Steeping means brewing your tea. Re-steeping means re-brewing the leaves over and over again for additional cups of tea.

Both our Green and Red Teas will provide you with great tasting second and third cups after re-steeping. The best way to enjoy quality cups of tea after re-steeping is to re-steep the leaves in one sitting and do not keep the tea overnight.
